Florida's 2004 Hurricanes

Malty had a ruff couple of month's during the 2003 hurricane season with Charley, Frances, Jeanne and Ivan.

As luck would have it, we only got the fringes of Charley, Frances and Jeanne. We were prepared for Ivan but he turned and went west, so the areas already damaged by the three previous were spared.

Charlie gave us our strongest winds of gusts to 35 to 85 mph as it passed by. The total time was only six hours form outer edges until it had gone. We got 10 inches of rain over a twelve hour period.

Frances took down three trees, one 85 ft pine and two 45 ft oak trees. Frances lasted 27 hours of 35 mph to 70 mph winds and 16 inches of rain. The ground was really wet and with continuous winds this is why we lost the three trees.

Jeanne was the easiest on us. Winds of 35 to 65 mph but only lasted a few hours but the rain continued for two days. We got around 12 inches of rain.

We are considered veterans now with preparing for four  hurricane's in two months. It normally takes 25 years to experience as many hurricane's where we are at.

Our friends Jerald and Marica had a slight scare with the Halifax river rising up and over the sea wall and into their backyard, then started to recede.

This area has never had a direct hit via any hurricane in history. It has been in the outskirts of and few but you normally don't have any major damage, just a few trees down and a lot rain. This is one of the main reasons for choosing this area.

We groom 1.5 acre of the 2.6 and this is the natural portion that joins one of the wildlife refuge in Florida

This means there won't be any neighbors, except deer, turkeys, wild hogs, squirrels and almost every bird known to North America. Once in a while you may have a gator visit the pond for a few days.
